COUNTRY HERO IN FLOODWATERS: When floodwaters threatened a group of teenagers in rural Texas, Blake Shelton didn’t hesitate—he jumped into action and steered his truck through mud and raging currents to save four stranded boys. “We thought no one was coming. Then Blake Shelton showed up,” they later said.
Swept Off the Road and Left Behind
Bryar Blanton (18), Lenyell Blanton, Josh Turner, and Adrian Poplin were exploring trails by the Guadalupe River when an unexpected downpour triggered a flash flood and massive mudslide. Their truck lurched off the narrow road and sank into thick sludge beside a swollen creek.
“We thought we’d be out there all night,” Bryar recalled. With no cell reception and daylight fading, they trudged several miles in soaked clothes, desperately waving at any passerby.
“Hop In, Boys”
Just as hope was fading, a camo-bumper pickup appeared. “We saw a truck roll up with a hound dog riding shotgun,” Adrian said. Rolling down his window, Blake Shelton calmly asked, “Y’all stuck?” When the teens nodded, he smiled and invited them aboard: “Hop in. Let’s go get your buddies.”
He first attempted to tow their vehicle free, but the mud held fast. Unfazed, Blake promised, “I’ll be back in 15 minutes with my tractor,” and true to his word, he returned, towed their truck out, and got everyone to safety—soaked and muddy, but grateful.
A Down-to-Earth Act of Kindness
This isn’t the first time Shelton has lent a hand in a flood. In 2015, he rescued a stranded motorist during Tropical Storm Bill in Oklahoma. But this rescue comes amid Texas’s deadliest flooding in over a decade, which has claimed more than 100 lives and displaced countless families across Kerr County.
Words of Wisdom Before Goodbye
Before parting ways, Blake shared a heartfelt talk about life and loss, mentioning his late brother Richie, who died in a car accident when Blake was 14. “He told us, ‘Take life seriously—you don’t get a rewind,’” Josh Turner remembered. The teens snapped photos with Shelton and posted their gratitude online.
“Just wanna thank @blakeshelton for pulling us out yesterday—you’re the realest,” Bryar tweeted. Blake replied, “No problem… now you boys stay outta jail! Ha!”
A Reminder of True Country Spirit
In a week marked by devastation, Blake Shelton didn’t stop at delivering aid—he brought hope, laughter, and muddy boots straight to the front lines. He didn’t seek attention; he simply did what felt right. His actions remind us all of the true meaning of country—that compassion and community can conquer any storm.
